USS ALABAMA MEMORIAL PARK. Located in Mobile, AL., the park features two World War II era ships, the South Dakota Class battleship USS Alabama, BB-60, and the Gato Class submarine, USS Drum, SS-228. Visitors can explore the decks and interior spaces of both ships. The park also includes an eclectic display of military aircraft, tanks, artillery, smaller military boats, and memorials.
Our visit on December 5, 2020 included an air attack simulation featuring several vintage airplanes from a nearby air field and anti-aircraft fire by volunteer reenactors aboard the USS Alabama. This exhibition was especially poignant as it occurred just two days before the anniversary of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
