Birds & Seeds

These bird photos were taken on a drizzly overcast Monday afternoon in my backyard. These are the first photos I've taken of Cardinals molting. Molting occurs late in the summer after they have completed breeding for the season.

According to experts, molting can also occur when food is abundant (such as from these feeders) as it allows them to put on body fat to help them through the molting process, which usually lasts about a month. As can be seen in some of these pictures other birds also enjoy feeding on the sunflower seeds.
