A Few of My Favorites
The Cardinal is a long-tailed songbird with a prominent red crest. Males are a beautiful red with a black mask and throat and a short, thick beak. The female is a pale brown with red highlights. The beak of adult males is a bright orange. Unlike many birds, Cardinals do not migrate. At least here, the males are seen more often than are the females. For best viewing, use an iPad or larger monitor.
