Shanghai began as a small fishing village about 5,000 years ago. Today, Shanghai is the largest city in China and one of the world's most important ports. The modern city and financial center surrounds the Bund, which is the city's riverfront promendade. Of all the places we visited in China, Shanghai had the best wifi connections by far, which leads me to believe what I read that it has a history of "being an open-minded city with a free-wheeling character."
