Wadi Rum (the valley of light sand) is also known as the Valley of the Moon. It is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock located in southern Jordan and is the largest wadi in Jordan. Movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, Red Planet, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and The Martian were filmed here. Khaz'ali Canyon in Wadi Rum is the site of petroglyphs etched into the cave walls depicting humans and antelopes, which date back to the Thamudic times. The village of Wadi Rum itself consists of several hundred Bedouin inhabitants who live in goat-hair tents and concrete houses and who also drive four-wheel vehicles.
