On a rainy and very overcast day, our visit to the Great Wall of China was to the crowded but well-preserved Badaling Hills section of the wall, which is the highest point of the Guangou Gorge. The wall once stretched for over 6,200 miles. Some sections were demolished at the order of Mao Zedong during his dictatorship. Today, the wall is protected and preserved for the national treasure it is.
