CORONATION of APHRODITE, APOLLO, and their COURT. Ancient Greece encompassed innumerable goddesses and gods, each representing a certain facet of the human condition including abstract ideas such as justice and wisdom. In ancient Greek literature and art, these gods were given both good and bad human bodies and characters. As with ordinary women and men, they married, had children, clashed, and directly interceded in human activities.
The most important gods of ancient Greece were the Olympian gods: Aphrodite, Apollo, Hestia, Aries, Hera, Zeus, Demeter, Dionysus, Athena, Poseidon, Persephone, Hades, Artemis, and Hermes. They resided on Mt. Olympus.
