The Flight
B-17 FLIGHT. November 17, 2012. Along with other B-17 fans, I boarded for a 30 minute flight over Pensacola and Santa Rosa Island. During takeoff and landing, I sat at the radio operator's station. During the flight I was free to move around the plane. This was an emotion-filled experience because my father was a radio operator on B-17's, stationed in the Philippines when the war broke out in the Pacific. He was captured when General Wainwright's forces surrendered at Corregidor and became a Japanese POW until the war's end. To learn more about his experiences, CLICK HERE.
