SECOND LINE. The Second Line procession is a traditional parade, most often held during Mardi Gras events as part of a krewe activity, an outdoor parade or a Mardi Gras Ball. The “main line” usually includes a live band, who plays traditional Mardi Gras music. Those who parade about as the band (the First Line) plays its festive music are called the “Second Line.” These participants walk in a twisting progression, often twirling a parasol or waving a white handkerchief in the air.
