DELICACY: a rare or expensive food item that is considered highly desirable, sophisticated or peculiarly distinctive within a given culture. Irrespective of local preferences, such a label is typically pervasive throughout a region. Often this is because of unusual flavors or characteristics or because it is rare or expensive compared to standard foods.
During our tour, Pete was always ready to try local flavors and dishes. We admired his tenacity, if not his judgement, in his selection of new and sometimes "delicate" food items. While on board our riverboat, Pete finally met his match when our outstanding Tour Escort, Tom, offered a choice of Chinese delights to Pete (In #3, it appears that Tom is looking at Pete and thinking, "I can't believe he is actually going to eat that.") I was there to record the entire ordeal.
