Located in the Marianao neighborhood of Havana, The Tropicana first opened in the late 1930's. There are actually two theaters, one outdoors and another, indoors. The night of our visit, we were indoors because of the periodic rain. The indoor theater is air conditioned, which is a big plus, IMHO. When the show begins, electricity fills the night air from the highly talented singers and dancers as they perform their energetic acts clothed in a variety of colorful costumes. Fast paced songs and big band Cuban music punctuated the night.

The "adventure" part of our experience came in the taxi ride to the Tropicana and our return to the ship. We were told the trip to the Tropicana from the ship would take at least 45 minutes. Our drivers made it in 15 minutes! The old Fords and Chevys were fast, loud, rode like a tank, and leaked road fumes even though they were air conditioned. But what a ride! Oh, what a ride!
