The Jerash ruins of Jordan are claimed to be the best-preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy. It is located 30 miles north of Amman. Jerash is noted for its imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres, which together speak to a time when this was an important imperial center in the middle east.
