The Saladin Citadel of Cairo is a medieval Islamic fortification located in Cairo. The location, on Mokattam hill near the center of the city, was once famous for its fresh breezes and grand views of the city. The Citadel is now a preserved historic site, with mosques and museums. In addition to the mosque, the citadel also hosts the Military Museum, the Police Museum, the Royal Carriages Museum, and the Qaser El Gawhara Museum.

The Citadel was modeled after the Blue Mosque, located in Istanbul, Turkey. To see photos of the Blue Mosque, click here.
