The history of Xi'an stretches back more than 3,000 years. Surrounded by a ancient city wall, Xi'an was the capital of China for 12 imperial dynasties. The city was positioned at the terminus of the famous Silk Road and many historians claim that Xi'an rivaled Egypt and Greece as the birthplace of civilization. Today, Xi'an is most famous for the thousands of Terra Cotta Warriors that were unearthed in 1974.
