Queen Hatshepsut was the oldest daughter of King Thutmose I and became Queen after she married her half-brother at the age of 12. At her request, she was often depicted as a male in sculptures. Hatshepsut was only the third woman to become Pharaoh in 3,000 years of ancient Egyptian history but she was the first woman to gain full power of the throne. The better known Cleopatra did not become a full ruler until some 14 centuries later. This temple is located at Deir El Bahari.
